Featured Breeder

We are responsible and ethical owners and breeders of the rare and ancient Bergamasco Sheepdog. This is a unique breed from the Italian Alps region characterized by it's rustic appearance of "flocks", which form a weather protective coat of long thick interwoven hairs forming a type of dreadlock.

The Bergamasco is a being of strong will, courage, loyalty and affection with strong guarding and herding instincts. In general, the Bergamasco is level headed and friendly with everyone. Because the coat is comprised of actual hairs and not fur, some people with pet dander allergies are not affected by the Bergamasco. Our dogs are Penn Hipp tested and eyes are certified. Our small breeding program continues the carefully selected lineages of old Italian lines. Our dogs are never crated and are well socialized in the home and in society. We only feed a high quality modified raw diet. For more breed information and lots of photos, please visit our website - www.alpangelbergamascos.com.

Stonedance is the first breeder of the Bergamasco (also known as the Italian Alpine Sheepdog) in Canada. This rare, unique breed, stems from Northern Italy. An indispensible companion to the shepherd, it is a dog of strong character and great loyalty, enhanced by a unique and felted coat, giving the breed its very distinct look. While ever watchful, the Bergamasco has incredible joy and a puckish sense of humour, complete with smile.

A small, yet dedicated presence, Stonedance breeds ethically and responsibly, working carefully to maintain the gene pool integrity through excellent European bloodlines with wonderful results, and ongoing research. The first Canadian registered Bergamasco Therapy Dog was born here. Puppies are well socialized and the dogs thoroughly enjoy time with company. A raw and natural diet is served and great effort is made to balance excellent veterinarian care with natural rearing. You are welcome to visit www.stonedance.ca for more information and insight to this wonderful breed.

Silver Pastori introduced the Pastore de Bergamasco Sheepdog to North America in 1995 with the World renowned dell Albera Bergamasco Sheepdog lineage. Silver Pastori, (Donna and Stephen DeFalcis) had North America's first registered litter of Bergamasco Sheepdogs in 1998 with Fauno & Gae dell Albera.

In order to continue the wonderfully acclaimed dell Albera Bergamasco Sheepdog lineage, we were happy to pass on their traits and characteristics to interested parties throughout Canada and the USA. In 1998, the first US Registered Bergamasco sired from Silver Pastori, Fauno and Gae dell Albera, was introduced to Canada. This was followed by a breeding partner from the dell Albera Kennel in Italy which went on to produce two litters. Many of the puppies were placed throughout the US and Canada. In 2005, Alp Angel Bergamascos, introduced Lothoria dell Albera Silver Pastori, Son of Lindoro and Orzia dell Albera. Lothario, a beautiful Gray Merle, enjoys life in Nova Scotia along with "Mezza", from Chique Bergamascos in England and "Aria" from Rimbalzo Bergamascos in Georgia.

Important Note:

If you are considering the adoption of a puppy of any breed, it is very important to be selective in choosing a responsible and reputable breeder. The Canada's Guide to Dogs website provides advertisement listings to responsible and reputable Breeders of pure bred dogs and, while there is certain criteria that must be met in order to be listed here, we cannot recommend, nor do we endorse or support any one of these listings. (For more information on selecting a breeder, see the articles on the main Breed/Breeders section: Information for the Potential Puppy/Dog Buyer.)

In addition to the Breeders listed here, the Breed Clubs generally include listings of member Breeders on their web sites and, if not, then a listing can usually be obtained either by e-mail or telephone. We do not randomly add Breeders to any listing. All Breeders listed have requested to be included either via a general link or paid advertising.

If a young pup is not an absolute requirement for you, then considering the adoption of a dog from a rescue organization or shelter is strongly recommended. Each individual breed section on the Canada's Guide to Dogs web site includes listings of Rescue Organizations specific to the breed. In addition, Breeders occasionally have young adults available and many also take in rescued dogs. To learn more about adopting a rescue dog, please see the Rescue Organizations & Shelters section of the Canada's Guide to Dogs web site. This section includes several articles and general information along with listings of shelters and rescue organizations that are not breed specific from across Canada.

Note to Breeders:

We are pleased to provide a free general link to websites of responsible and reputable Breeders of pure bred dogs. In addition, several paid advertising options are available. Details can be found under the Advertise Section of the Canada's Guide to Dogs website.

The purchase or sale of any purebred dog is strictly between the buyer and seller. Accuracy of information for all advertisements is the sole responsiblity of the advertiser and we cannot be held responsible for any misrepresentation.
