THE SMA (SAYBEL' MEDICAL ASSISTANCE) FOUNDATION

Moya Spruce - Founder

Most Canadians are probably unaware that thousands of pets are being euthanized or forfeited every week.

These pets are put to sleep by reluctant owners, who are faced with the financial challenges that prohibit them from rendering emergency and necessary medical care.

It is this reality and the personal tragedy of Laurie and Dennis Roland that this foundation is born. Having suffered financially and emotionally by losing their beloved black lab Saybel struck down by lymphonic cancer we are on a mission to help others faced with the same struggle. Our beloved family pets do get ill and sometimes need medical help and assistance. Even the cost of basic procedures such as immunization, spaying and neutering can be a heavy burden on them.

Families should not be forced to send their pets to a shelter or face the other alternative of putting them to sleep due to lack of funds. Think of the elderly who consider their pets the only family they have, however the financial implications do not warrant any other choice!

Regardless of the misconception "just get another dog or cat" seems to say they are easily replaceable. To those who love, care and consider them a family member it is just not plausible.

Take a moment to think about what some pets do for us!

They are Seeing Eye dogs, police dogs, therapy dogs, hearing impaired dogs, rescue dogs, national service dogs, sports and even entertainment animals!

On Friday, April 25th, 2008 Dennis & Laurie Roland, Christa Cepovski, and myself, Moya Spruce are launching the SMA Foundation to bring awareness to the public and help our beloved animal friends.

About the Foundation

The SMA Foundation will be set up as a non-profit organization with a mission to serve as a guardian to those animals whose owners find themselves in a difficult financial situation. We believet that owners should not have to say goodbye to the ones that they love! We will work with veterinary clinics across the country and will be eager to help and assist as many animals and their owners as possible. Our services will range from financial aid to complete treatment to those pets and pet owners in need!
