The Australian Shepherd is a high energy, versatile dog that enjoys having a job to do. The breed makes a wonderful companion for the active family, is known to be gentle with small children, and a good watch dog.
Originally bred to herd livestock and work as an all purpose farm dog, the Aussie also excels in all types of dog sports and activities, including Agility, Flyball, and Obedience. Physically, the Australian Shepherd is a medium size dog, slightly longer than tall. Coat colours are either blue merle, solid black, red merle, solid red, all with or without white markings and/or copper points. The Aussie's eyes are very expressive and can be brown, blue, amber or any variation or combination of these. Eyes may also have flecks or marbling.
